About Us

GlassesOff® is the leading product brand of Ucansi, a U.S. corporation with an R&D facility in Israel.  Following 15 years of academic research and several highly-successful clinical trials, the company has launched the GlassesOff® product, which is a non-invasive solution for the treatment of Presbyopia. Presbyopia, commonly referred to as “aging eye”, is the inevitable condition related with the hardening of the crystalline lens inside the eye  that affects most people by the age of 40 and mostly everyone by age 51, making it difficult to read, do hobby work or even see the time on a watch without aid of reading glasses. GlassesOff® eliminates the need for reading glasses – no need for an expensive and potentially unsafe invasive eye procedure. GlassesOff® product is based on leading-edge scientific breakthroughs in the area of eye-brain disfunctionalities, led by Dr. Uri Polat – one of the pioneers and world-leading researchers in the area. Dr. Polat’s research has been published in the most prestigious academic publications, including Nature, PNAS, Vision Research and many others (for a list of these publications please Click Here). The GlassesOf® team, including Ph.Ds in eye-brain functionalities, and optometrists have collaborated to develop a solution that will significantly enhance the quality of life of millions around the world who suffer from Presbyopia.

The company is lead by a team of scientists.

Dr. Uri Polat
Dr. Polat is a co-Founder and the Chief Scientific Officer of Ucansi Inc. Dr. Polat is the director of the Visual and Clinical Neuroscience Laboratory at the Eye Research Institute at the Sheba Medical Center, Faculty of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University. He received a PhD in Brain Research from the Weizmann institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel. He was at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, San-Francisco, USA for several years as a Fellow and Associate Scientist. Dr. Polat was the Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of NeuroVision Inc. and developed the first FDA approved treatment of adult Amblyopia. Dr. Polat is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the Visual Sciences Society, The Israel Society for Neuroscience, and the International Brain Organization. His research and scientific publications received international recognition and are highly influential in the field of neuronal interaction, brain plasticity and perceptual learning in improving visual functions.

Dr. Anna Sterkin
Dr. Sterkin is Associate Scientist in the Visual and Clinical Neuroscience Laboratory of Dr. Uri Polat, at the Tel-Aviv University's Goldschleger Eye Research Institute at the Sheba Medical Center. Her current research is on visual perception, focused on the neuro-physiological substrates of visual perception, learning and neuroplasticity in the human brain, under normal conditions and following pharmacological modulations of the brain function. In her experimental work, Dr. Sterkin combines recordings of electrical activity of the brain using the Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP) technique with behavioral measurements in healthy individuals and patients with various clinical disorders, in several age groups. Dr. Sterkin has obtained her PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science, at the Department of Neurobiology, where she investigated the interactions between the visual and the auditory odalities in processing sensory and language-related information, using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) of the brain. Dr. Sterkin is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the Visual Sciences Society, the Israel Society for Neuroscience, and the International Brain Organization.
